My First Week Home

Settling In and Sniffing Out My New Life 🐾

8 weeks-9 weeks old
July 6-13

Hey there, it’s Blake again! I wanted to tell you about my first week in my furever home 😉 I came home when I was 8 weeks old, on July 6th. And wow! What a first week it was! Let me tell you all about it!

The first night was…a little weird, to be honest. It was my first time away from my littermates, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I missed their snuggles and the warmth of our puppy pile. But my new family made sure I felt safe and cozy in my very own crate. It’s this comfy little space just for me, and you know what? I love it! My crate is like my own little den. They say it’s important for puppies like me to have a crate, and I can see why—it’s where I feel safe and secure. They’ve made it just the right size, too. There’s a divider that makes sure I have enough room to stand up, turn around, and lay down comfortably. It’s perfect, and it helps me with my potty training too.

Speaking of potty breaks, wow, do I get to go outside a lot! My humans are really on top of things. They took me out late at night, around 11 or midnight, and then again at 3 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. And guess what? I didn’t have a single accident in my crate! I think they’re pretty impressed with me. By the end of the week, they were able to stop the middle of the night potty breaks and I still held it all night!

During the day, when they can’t keep an eye on me, I have a bigger playpen to hang out in. It gives me a bit more room to stretch my paws and play, but it’s still safe and cozy. They say it’s so I don’t get into trouble—apparently, I’m too little to be left unsupervised just yet. But I don’t mind; I’m learning all about boundaries and what’s okay to chew on (hint: it’s not the furniture!).

I also got to go on my very first car rides this week. Short trips, but so exciting! My humans say it’s good for me to get used to the car, and they were right—I’m already getting the hang of it. And then there was my first vet visit! I was a little nervous at first, but the vet was super nice and gave me lots of treats. They made sure it was a positive experience for me, and by the end, I was wagging my tail and feeling pretty good about the whole thing.

Oh, and we’ve been going on little outings, too! Just short ones, and not to places with lots of other dogs yet, since I’m still waiting to get all my vaccines. But I’m getting to see new sights and sounds, and I’m learning that the world is a pretty cool place. We don’t go out to new places too long, usually for about 10 minutes or so. I’m usually ready to rest again after that.

I’m also getting to know my new pack. There’s Captain and Commander—they’re definitely the leaders, and I already feel like I can trust them to take care of me. Then there’s Gramp-paw, the older dog in the house. We’re taking things slow, meeting each other through the crate or on leashes. He seems pretty interested in me, and I’m really hoping we can become good friends. Little Paw and Lovie Paw are the best snugglers! They always want to cuddle, and I’m totally okay with that. Quick Paw likes his video games, but he’s good to hang out with when I need some quiet time. And Big Paw? He’s really into helping out with my training and making sure I’m okay. I think I’m going to like it here a lot.

So that’s my first week in my new home! I’m learning a lot, making new friends, and starting to feel like this is where I belong. Stay tuned, and I’ll keep you posted on all my puppy escapades.

Paws and happy tail wags, Blake 🐾
